Bert Miller & The Animal Folk
Local Hero & award-winning artist Bert Miller (year 11 final assembly – funniest male) is back with a new lineup. Still as hilarious 20 years on. Come and hear songs like Don’t Eat Your Friends and Ice Cream Flavoured Tits, and discover the weird and wonderful world of Bert Miller And The Animal Folk.
Post-water-shed Disney songs about the underbelly of all things animal. If someone’s music is hard to describe that’s normally a good sign in my eyes. It means you can’t just write it off to some overly trodden genre path and it may actually be worth a listen. Of course, it could be hard to describe because it’s so generic and bland that it doesn’t have any distinguishing features to talk about… but that’s not the case here. Bert’s songs are simplistic and well crafted and his lyrics, honest and sincere but his demeanour and his delivery will often see audiences laughing at even the saddest moments in his story. They are not comedy songs but Bert’s unique take on things can, sometimes, make the whole world seem like a bit of a joke. Add to this five accomplished musicians (who manage to hang on Bert’s every word even when he is taking impromptu breaks in the songs to discuss whatever is on his mind) and you still won’t be close to describing the brilliant, quirky, raucous beauty of Bert Miller And The Animal Folk.
