Having released eight albums over the course of twenty years and captured audiences all over the world with their energetic live shows, Soothsayers (led by horn players and vocalists Idris Rahman and Robin Hopcraft ) have pioneered a sound that encompasses the afrobeat, dub and jazz influences picked up in south London’s cultural melting pot and brought to life with a large collective of musicians, guest artists and producers in a constantly evolving musical journey. Their heavy, dubbed out grooves mixed with blissed out 3-part vocal harmonies, fiery afrobeat/jazz climaxes and politically conscious lyrics have led the way in a crossover of influences that much of the current younger new wave of UK Jazz musicians are beginning to explore.
They’ve just released their ninth album (vinyl will be released in Jan 2021, out on Wah Wah 45s) entitled We Are Many. Recorded both in south London and across the globe in Sao Paulo, Brazil, it represents a positive and uplifting statement in these challenging times.
Vinyl will be available on the night.
“It’s an album that is both thought-provoking and musically outstanding” (Louder Than War)
“The grooves are solid, the playing immaculate and the three-part vocal harmonies the icing on the cake” (The Independent on Sunday)
