Rhythm Section Live returns to Camden with a double-bill of Jazz Cafe favourites: new generation jazz experimentalists Vels Trio and dynamic vocalist, producer and songwriter Lynda Dawn.
Within a flourishing London jazz scene Vels Trio still stand out as a unique entity. Exploring sounds across jazz, funk, electronic and hip hop, their live shows are filled with heavy grooves, fiery improvisations and sky-high energy. They’ve become seasoned performers, sharing the stage with the likes of Moses Boyd and Shabaka Hutchings, and continue to evolve their craft so that no two shows will ever be the same.
Lynda Dawn first caught attention with the nostalgic boogie track ‘Move’ on Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood Bubblers 13. Her debut EP, Al Dobson Jr-produced At First Light, soon followed with a sonic exploration of soul, funk and jazz based on the sounds she grew up on. The release on Mndsgn’s Akashik Records earnt her number 1 spot on Jamz Supernova’s Top 5 EP’s in the world on BBC Radio 1Xtra. Lynda’s back for her first live performance since February’s Extra Soul Perception showcase.
Label head honcho Bradley Zero holds things down from the booth before, between and after sets with his much-loved globetrotting selections.
*Please note that downstairs is drinks only.
