“I feel like we’re reconnecting people with an era and a way of making and writing music which in today's mainstream has perhaps lost relevance.”
Compared to the likes of Steely Dan, Fleetwood Mac, and The Doobie Brothers, YGSF’s opening salvo West End Coast evokes the SoCal pop-rock classics of the 1970s whilst also drawing inspiration from Philly-Soul. Thanks to Platts and Lee - two of the UK's most prolific and versatile pop music linguists - vigorous horn arrangements, orchestral elements and more combine to create a boundary-defying niche that refreshes in an age of conformity and compromise.
This is their first home town gig since completing their latest offering Canyons. Uniquely contemporary yet utterly ensconced in a post-'78, pre-'84 era, you might find yourselves hugging each other in a blissed-out state of recognition.
"There’s no doubt that creatively and sonically we come from an almost exclusively American place but there’s a definite British influence which only serves to make it more distinctive.”
