Trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire is a forward-thinking talent. Crossing seamlessly through hip hop, classical, free jazz, funk and more, he's a bold leader that's revolutionising his instrument's role in jazz music. His latest album on the tender spot of every calloused moment - his fifth on Blue Note - is out now and confirms his kaleidoscopic vision as a composer.
He rose to fame concurrently with LA's 'West Coast Get Down', the collective of jazz-influenced musicians boasting the talents of Kamasi Washington, Terrace Martin and Thundercat. However, as the Guardian notes, "he's by far the most adventurous musician in that crowd", highlighted by his appearance on Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp A Butterfly.
Line up:
Ambrose Akinmusire - Trumpet
Fabian Almazan - Piano
Matt Brewer - Bass
Justin Brown - Drums
