Peter Apo is an award-winning Native Hawaiian folksinger-songwriter and the leadeer of The Peter Apo Band. His performance style is intimate, up-close and personal, engaging audiences in the relaxed tradition of a folksinger-storyteller. His eclectic mix of songs takes listeners on a delightful ramble through a wide range of song styles and topical themes.
Peter's professional music career began in the '60s when he collaborated with two friends while attending the University of Oregon to form The Travelers Three. The group relocated to Los Angeles and became regular performer’s at the legendary club The Troubador. They went on to record with Elektra and then Capitol Records and broke onto the national folk music scene touring clubs and colleges across the nation. They became fixtures in Las Vegas lounges and big-city supper clubs around the country.
The Travelers Three disbanded in the late '60s and Peter traded his guitar for a briefcase and signed on as a tour manager for Variety Artists International, an international pop concert tour organization. While with Variety Artists he worked closely with some of the most famous stars of the era which included Neil Diamond, The Eagles, War, Helen Reddy, Mac Davis, Johnny Cash, Kenny Rogers, The Carpenters, Badfinger, Ricky Nelson, Pat Boone, Bob Newhart, Jim Croce and others.
In a breakaway move from the mainland music scene, Peter returned home to Hawai`i in 1975, where his life took a dramatically different turn toward a serious dedication to community service as a Hawaii State legislator and government administrator. Reluctant to abandon music as a serious pursuit, he paralelled his political pursuits with music as an avocation by forming Peter Apo Music. He recorded several CDs on his Mamo Records label and went on to form The Peter Apo Band. Today, The Peter Apo Band is his primary pursuit and will soon be releasing their first CD.
