As a drummer, he is one of the most in–demand on the scene today, having gigged and/or recorded with (among others) Chris Potter, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Joshua Redman, and Pat Martino. As a composer, he was well–equipped (being the son of a classical singer/conductor father and violinist/pianist mother) to become the creator of The Ari Hoenig Songbook, containing the lead sheets of all of his compositions and “not just the easy ones.” As an educator, Hoenig is on faculty at New York University and the New School for Social Research, and also teaches privately. As a bandleader, he formed the first Ari Hoenig Quartet in 2002; finding an hour or two yet to be filled on his weekly schedule, he also convened the Ari Hoenig Nonet to perform his compositions in arrangements by Noam Wiesenberg; and the Ari Hoenig Trio (with Gilad Hekselman and Orlando le Flemming), a group that has toured extensively in Europe, Japan and Latin America. This Jazz Standard one–nighter will spotlight the music of Conner’s Days, the artist’s latest Fresh Sounds CD, released May 15. “Ari Hoenig combines jaw-dropping intensity, phenomenal technique, and visionary perspective, making him a major force in jazz’s evolution through the 21st century.” (Rick Mason, Minneapolis/St Paul City Pages)
