Presenting his latest release, Subtle Disguise, the ever-inventive vibes master's tight-knit quartet is joined by special guests Adam Rogers and Raul Midón. For the past several years, vibraphonist/composer/bandleader Joe Locke has worked with two musical purposes in mind: one, to speak in a vernacular which reaches people, and two, to continue challenging himself as a player, writer and arranger. In 2013 Locke released Lay Down My Heart (Blues & Ballads, Vol. 1), which dealt with the first directive. Then in 2015 he addressed the second imperative with the astounding five–part suite Love Is A Pendulum. Now, on his newest release, Subtle Disguise (Origin Records), both of these impulses have been integrated into one exceptional recording. “For me, this album is the fruition of a long journey of self–discovery as an artist,” says Joe Locke, “where I no longer see the different aspects of my musical personality as separate or at odds with one another. I have discovered my own lingua franca, connecting the seemingly disparate styles I enjoy playing.” Alongside his working quartet, Joe welcomes the gifted guitarists Raul Midón and Adam Rogers as his very special guests for this much–anticipated engagement.
