A year after his impressionistic, award–winning and critically–lauded ECM label debut Into The Silence, Avishai Cohen’s Cross My Palm With Silver (ECM, 2017) introduced a program of new pieces and a level of adroit interplay that allowed the trumpeter to soar to new heights of expression. “Cohen is a multicultural jazz musician, among whose ancestors is Miles Davis,” wrote Ben Ratliff in The New York Times. “Like Davis, he can make the trumpet a vehicle for uttering the most poignant human cries.” In addition to his growing body of work as a leader, Avishai Cohen has performed and recorded with saxophonist Mark Turner, French–Israeli pop singer Keren Ann, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and the Indian tabla master Zakir Hussain.
