Drummer Kendrick Scott –whose impressive résumé includes stints with the Crusaders, Terence Blanchard, and David Sanborn – makes a welcome return to Jazz Standard this week with his working group Oracle to premiere his new work D-A-S-H, a CMA New Jazz Works Premiere funded by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation. Of the quintet’s stellar players, each an experienced leader in his own right, Scott says: “When you develop personal relationships, that adds to the music. Personally, we’ve seen each other go through things and we play those things. Music isn’t really about music, it’s about life. So, the more we live, and the more we live together as a band, more things come out. More things get said in the music. I live for that, you know?”
